Critical infrastructure: Allgeier secion provides IT security for Emden's public utility company

As a basic utility, Stadtwerke Emden belongs to the so-called critical infrastructure (CRITIS) and is considered a particularly attractive target for cyber attacks. In the worst case, a compromise of the IT systems could cause the vital supply of electricity, natural gas, district heating and water to citizens to collapse.
In order to avoid disruptions or outages and to meet the statutory security requirements for energy suppliers, Stadtwerke Emden decided to subject its IT infrastructure to an extensive penetration test.
In a combined black and white box audit, Allgeier secion's IT security experts examined the basic utility's entire IT infrastructure. They used the thinking and procedures of real cyber criminals to detect technical vulnerabilities in the network.
