Improved protection against cyber attacks: Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences (FHV) relies on Active Cyber Defense service from Allgeier secion

Cyberattacks are more and more becoming an existential threat for organizations. Educational institutions are not spared either - in fact, they are more at risk than ever due to advancing digitization, remote work and online teaching. An attack on the University of Giessen, for example, resulted in total damage of around 1.7 million euros and a one-month outage of the entire IT infrastructure. At the end of July 2022, a hacker attack on Bergische Universität in Wuppertal paralyzed much of the infrastructure.
The University of Applied Sciences Vorarlberg (FHV - Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences), with over 1,600 students and around 350 employees, wanted to prevent such a scenario and supplement its already established preventive IT security measures with a "Managed Detection and Response" (MDR) service for early detection of attacks.
The FHV's IT team opted for Allgeier secion's lean and secure Active Cyber Defense (ACD) service. The company's IT security experts continuously analyze all systems in the network for conspicuous communication behavior. Compromised systems are thus identified at an early stage, isolated in a targeted manner and cleaned up before any damage is done.
The rapid deployment and the low costs compared to SIEM solutions convinced the IT managers at FHV: The implementation of the managed service took a total of only three days.
